GLI is the testing laboratory whose standards most of this industry is measured against. When a supplier in this directory says "GLI-19 certified", GLI is who issued it.
For an operator the practical relevance is that certification is a gate, not a feature. A regulator asks for it, a platform integration asks for it, and the timeline to obtain it is part of your launch plan whether you budgeted for it or not. Understanding what GLI actually tests — and what it does not — is worth more than treating the badge as a quality signal.
GLI also sells regulatory consulting. Note that this is a different engagement from testing, and keeping the two separate in your own planning is sensible: the laboratory that certifies your system and the advisor who helps you enter a market are related services, not the same one.
