How to choose a payments provider for iGaming in Brazil

Approval rate, payout speed and reconciliation move more revenue than price per transaction. What to ask a PSP before you sign.

Choosing a payments provider is the vendor decision that moves revenue the most — and the one most often made on price. Half a point on transaction fees is visible in a spreadsheet; eight points of approval rate are invisible until you run two providers on the same traffic.

This is the list to work through before the sales call.

Approval rate beats price per transaction

A provider charging 1.2% that approves 82% of deposits loses to one charging 1.6% that approves 91%, at any meaningful volume. The maths is trivial and almost nobody runs it at proposal stage, because the number on the sales deck is always the fee and never the approval.

Ask for:

  • approval rate for your traffic profile, not the provider's portfolio average;
  • the last 90 days, split by method and ticket size;
  • who answers when approval drops at 3am on a Sunday.

A provider without those numbers to hand usually is not monitoring them either.

Pix is a commodity, running it is not

Nearly every provider in Brazil offers Pix. The difference shows at the edges: automatic return of unidentified deposits, how fast the credit reflects in the player's balance, behaviour when an intermediary is down, and whether payouts settle in minutes or wait in an hourly batch.

Brazilian regulation tightened exactly there. Under Law 14.790/2023 and the rules from the betting regulator, player money must move through authorised institutions and account ownership must match the registration. A provider treating that as an implementation detail will hand you compliance rework later.

Reconciliation is where cheap gets expensive

Ask how reconciliation is delivered: a file by email, a dashboard, or an API where the statement matches transaction by transaction. Operations that reconcile in spreadsheets find discrepancies weeks later, when rebuilding the case costs more than the discrepancy.

Chargebacks and card fraud

Cards in Brazilian iGaming come with chargebacks and specific MCC rules. Find out whether the provider fights disputes for you, what its win rate is, and whether the anti-fraud is in-house or a third party — in the second case you are buying two vendors and negotiating with one.

Questions that separate a proposal from a contract

QuestionWhy it matters
Approval by method on my profile?Sets revenue, not cost
Average time to payout?This is what players talk about
Is reconciliation available by API?Stops late discovery of gaps
Who handles out-of-hours incidents?Peak weekends are when it breaks
In-house anti-fraud or partner?Changes who answers in a dispute
Fallback route if the acquirer fails?Redundancy is a product, not a favour
